quilt-to-be

Not a few months ago, when I was still pregnant, I decided my baby would deserve a quilt...at least my first try. Well, my baby is born two months and 12 days ago and he has no quilt, it took me almost 4 months to cut the fabric....I know, it's ridiculous, but it's just me, bed-pregnancy or not, I hate cutting fabric!!!
Anyway, the other day I managed to start piecing the top quilt during my son's ten-minutes-nap (oh, yeah, he can't sleep for more than 30 minutes consecutively....) AND I used the chain piecing tecnique for the first time: it's just perfect for me, easy-peasy and super-fast!

Here's the result of my ten-minutes free time in a day!!

New life

My baby was born two months ago. Already.
I envy him: a whole new life ahead.
Hope he'll become who he'll want to become.
Meanwhile we are getting used to this wonderful new life.

Still here..

..but I've been lying in my bed for two months now...two months! It's all because of the damn contractions!! and the baby is due only on early May....two months left!!!
OK, I can sleep, read, cross-stitch, "draw", think a lot BUT I definitely CAN'T sew! :(
I just can't seat by my sewing machine for more than 20 minutes and since I'm still a beginner this is not enough for me to finish anything....it's so frustrating!! especially considering all the projects I'd like to finish for my baby (and my friends' newborn)...
SO, here's a list of some (only a few!) projects I found in blogland that I will make someday...

1. the blogland-famous baby bib from the bend-the-rules sewing book I recently bought
2. applique some onesie. Just this example from iheartlinen. I simply love her work, can't wait for her book to buy!!
3. sew my first qulilt! ie the one I designed the last november.....it'll be my baby blanket!
4. how about the soo cute "bitty booties" by Heather Bailey?!
5. and this super-easy blankt?!!

Well, I'd like to do everything, but I hope I'll be able to sew at least two bibs, two onesies and the quilt....hope it's not too much!!

I'm feeling lost....

My little mum died a month ago.
A lung cancer killed her in just six months.
She left us in a grey rainy day... she was tough and brave till the end
She was my tutor, she was my guide....
and now looking at my growing belly I can't believe she won't be here when our baby will be born
I can't believe she won't see him growing up, she won't teach him "life"
I just can't believe I had to say goodbye to my mother....
it was too-early for all of us

Let's start!

I made a decision: my baby will have a baby quilt!
I know, I've never made a quilt, but I know.... OK, I just hope I can do it!!!

So yesterday I started to plan my very first quilt top and thanks to this great tutorial by badskirt (I've just discovered her blog and love her quilts and toys!) I ended up with this:


it's built up with a representation of my real fabric and was a real fun playing with it!!
I think the result's quite nice and can work, at least I hope so, 'cause I won't stop till it's done!!! :)
Btw, does anybody know the standard sizes for a baby quilt?!?!! ^_^

I do love the rainbow array, but my first idea was a "more monochrome" quilt, but a careful look at my fabric stash revealed that I definitely need more fabric!!!! Now I have to convince my hubby too!!

A brief update...and card-holders

Still alive.

Still fighting with occasional evening sickness.....YES!! I am pregnant!!! 17 weeks.....we hope it's a she-baby!!

We FINALLY went to our honey-moon on October..... we got married on September the 7....2007!! Ok, better late than never! and, btw, New York City-Caribbean-Florida worth the wait! - next posts for some pictures!

I'm actually practicing my sewing skills and studying how to create a quilt..... perhaps my baby should have a quilted blanket rather than tons of cross-stitched bibs! - ok, I admit it, cross-stitching it's actually a little boring, I mean, it's not as challenging as a sewing project!

and speaking of challenges, five or six months ago I realized I desperately needed a card-holder for all my credit (just two of them!) and business cards (mainly restaurants' addresses and phone numbers) and I came up with this:

isn't it cute?!! I'm so happy, it's entirely an idea of mine...maybe my first idea ever!!! :)) and my sister and her boyfriend asked for their own version..
Hey, wait, now that I'm thinking about it..... Christmas is coming!!! :)

Avviso ai naviganti

...che giusto per sbaglio passassero di qui.

C'è aria di cambiamenti da queste parti (buoni e meno buoni, purtroppo...) e così ho deciso di cambiare completamente questo blog (sempre se ci riesco!!) che ultimamente mi andava un po' stretto.

Comincerò dal nome: questo blog non è più incentrato sulle crocette, quindi niente più "angolino crocettoso". Quale nome in alternativa?....ci sto ancora lavorndo!! ;)

Poi pensavo ad un modo per rendere più divertente per me lo scrivere nuovi post....ho trovato: basta con l'italiano, d'ora in poi scriverò in inglese........BUUUUM!!
Lo so, lo so, sembra troppo assurdo, considerando il mio livello, ma appunto per questo la vedo come una sfida e come un esercizio...cavoli, leggere lo leggo, perchè non lo so scrivere??!!!!
Quindi mi scuso in anticipo con chi mai dovesse trovare questo cambiamento fastidioso, non sono snob (no, direi proprio di no!), ma questa mi sembra l'unica vera occasione che ho per fare un po' di pratica. Sembra ancora assurdo?!! Noooo!

Addicted

Mi riferisco alle APPLICAZIONI....

Dopo la prima maglietta, di cui vado mooolto fiera :), ecco un altro tipo di applicazione, stavolta cucita a macchina, a ZIG-ZAG:

Come si vede....sono decisamente una PASTICCIONA, ma considerato che era la prima volta che cucivo un'applicazione con questo punto....poteva andare decisamente peggio!! (poteva piovere....!! :P).

Nel complesso sono molto CONTENTA, perchè è vero che è cucita di schifo, ma la stoffa mi piace un casino....e mi consola l'idea che per lo meno non esiste un'altra maglietta identica a questa in tutto il mendo!! ;)

Ok, sono entrata nel TUNNEL: vorrei cucire applicazioni su magliette, borse, bavaglini....qualche altro supporto lo trovo....e chi mi ferma!!!

Sto covando..

...questo lavoretto da mesi... no, diciamo che ormai sono anni!!

Mi è venuta l'idea a casa di un'amica di mio marito: i suoi "pezzi" sono collage di carta su legno compensato e devo dire che sono veramente belli! e così ho pensato subito di scopiazzare l'idea ed essendo un'inguaribile romantica il soggeto è venuto spontaneo: un prato di margherite!

Eccone una sbirciatina:

Non ho utilizzato il compensato perchè avevo paura che si deformasse con l'umidità (non abbiamo una casa umida, ma non si sa mai!!) e così ho comprato delle tavolette di legno (al plurale, perchè nel frattempo mi sono venute altre idee!).

Nella mia infinita ignoranza riguardo carta, collage & co. avevo pensato di incollare semplicemente i ritagli di carta con colla stick (lo so....), poi mia sorella mi ha convinto ad usare la tecnica del decoupage, che non adoro in genere, ma che mi sembra abbia dato un risultato notevole, rispetto ai pasticci che avrei potuto combinare!!

Ora, visto che sono una vera pasticciona, non ho ben progettato il disegno finito e quindi una volta terminate le margherite (ma sono così carine!!) mi sono trovata uno spazio esageratamente vuoto al di sopra del prato!!!
e quindi il quadretto è rimasto incompiuto diversi mesi, finchè l'altro giorno si è accesa una lampadina! ora so come completarlo!!

....ma dovrò aspettare l'aiuto di mia sorella...come ho già detto da qualche parte, io e la colla (pure quella del decoupage!!) non andiamo molto d'accordo!!! :P

Finalmente un lavoretto finito..

..iniziato.. mmmm ... 3 mesi fa!!!

E' la pochette che ho cucito per mia sorella, se non si capisce... è per il cambio della palestra! Il ricamo è tutto farina del mio sacco - come, chi ha detto "e si vede"??!! ;)
